Moreover, the game narratives have a completely different feel because of the factors that the two JCB IIIhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16490081362549015107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4836956334020662322.post-48278540592769209472013-06-29T21:24:34.781-07:002013-06-29T21:24:34.781-07:00How does this game compare to Battle of Moscow, a ...How does this game compare to Battle of Moscow, a Dave Williams design? But once the German player commits to lines of attack, the Soviet player must form a solid line and stack unless he wishes to be consumed by German armor and see major German advances. The loose zone defense still works as the game progresses in areas where German forces Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4836956334020662322.post-76216204893315209872011-03-19T21:44:27.437-07:002011-03-19T21:44:27.437-07:00Greetings FlightDoc:

And although it has been awhile since I played this venerable old title, as memeory serves, the usual German response -- when confronted by a continuous line of Russian "1s" -- was to attack more than one of these weakly-held Soviet hexes with a JCB IIIhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16490081362549015107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4836956334020662322.post-91181517827408065172011-03-19T08:17:24.334-07:002011-03-19T08:17:24.334-07:00The problem with the CRT truncation, to be explici...The problem with the CRT truncation, to be explicit, is that the Soviets have a bad side effect in that they know that ANY and EVERY attack has at least a 1/6 chance of an Axis loss. So a way to increase the number of total attacks is simply to spread out and put only 1 unit in a hex. This may be somewhat counterintuitive but this tactic works TOO well.

Don JohnsonAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4836956334020662322.post-40244378628698089762011-03-19T05:50:53.405-07:002011-03-19T05:50:53.405-07:00Greetings Doug:

The main reason that I preferred this game to some of the other SPI East Front titles was that both sides were confronted with very interesting challenges; hence, unlike some of the other games in this JCB IIIhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16490081362549015107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4836956334020662322.post-38977884983335459852011-03-18T22:20:40.674-07:002011-03-18T22:20:40.674-07:00I played this many times, usually as the Soviet pl...I played this many times, usually as the Soviet player. The initial set-up was a challenge. It was fun to experiment with different defense options to contain the initial German offensive - weak up front and strong in the rear - or vice versa. This is by far the biggest change to the Kursk system that they made for this game.

My guess is that the German playtesters would try to get max attacks at 12-1 so that he would take NO losses. They needed a fix and it needed to be quick. So the CRT truncation SMELLS like a Dunnigan idea to get around the 12-1 auto elim concern.
